2015

The Aroma of Christmas (2 Corinthians 2:12-17)

Christmas is when we celebrate the coming of Christ. We are the aromatherapy the world needs.

The Church as Intersection (John 4:7-42)

Worship is an intimate, supernatural, and ongoing reunion with the heavenly Father who created us.

The Church as a Safe Haven (Matthew 16:13-20)

Ekklesia comes from two root words, ek ('out of') and kaleo ('to call'). It literally means, "The ones called out." Jesus adapts a civil term for us in His vision for humanity. We are to be called out from the violence, segregation, and evil of this world into the love, compassion, and grace.

The Church as Tribe (John 17:15-23)

There are many ways to describe the church. 'Tribe' means that we are close, like a family. It says that we are in this together and we have a common task.

Gardendale Nazarene History (Rev. H. Lamar Smith)

Pastor H. Lamar Smith shares with us a short history of Gardendale Church of the Nazarene.

Numbering Our Days (Dr. Steven Hoskins)

On November 1st, Gardendale Church of the Nazarene celebrated our 50th Anniversary. It was a great Sunday of celebration. Dr. Steve Hoskins from Trevecca Nazarene University challenged us to remember who we are and to order our steps.

Special Speaker- Pastor Shannon Day

This morning, our Children's Pastor, Shannon Day brings our message.

Awe Confused (Exodus 20:17)

We wrap up our series today on The Ten Commandments. This is the only commandment that is repeated- "You shall not covet."

The Revealed God (Exodus 20:16)

Why do we have The Ten Commandments? Many answer, "They tell us what not to do." Yes, but there is a deeper reason. The Ten Commandments tell us who God is. They proclaim a God who loves His people.

Our Lives, Our Gifts (Exodus 20:15)

Life is a gift from our Creator and all that we are comes from Him. The problem arises when we lose sight of this fact. This struggle goes all the way back to the Fall.

Faithfulness, the Church, and Marriage (Exodus 20:14)

"You shall not commit adultery." This commandment seems straight forward enough. When we look deeper, we see a beautiful relationship that God has called us to– a relationship that is modeled after His love for us. Time in God's Name (Exodus 20:8-11)

Today we wrap up the first four commandments. These commandments are sometime called 'The Vertical Table'. They provide us a roadmap for attuning our life to God's. In the fourth commandment, we learn that God cares about our time and our rest.

'Hallowed Be Thy Name' (Exodus 20:7)

The third commandment is deeper than merely not using the Lord's name as a curse word. We are God's people and our worship and ethics must align with God's story.

Between You and God (Exodus 20:4-6)

The second commandment is"You shall not make for yourself a carved image." In many traditions, this commandment is coupled with the first commandment, "You shall have no other gods." At first glance these commandments seem redundant, until we understand that God knows us and our desire to worship. The question is, do we worship our Creator or the idols of this world?

No Other (Exodus 20:1-3)

Today we begin our series on the Ten Commandments. The commandments begin with a foundational commandment, "You shall have no other gods before me." What does it mean to have no other gods?

A New Freedom (Galatians 5:12-26)

As we wrap up our series, "The Fellowship of Love", we discover that we have been given a new freedom to live as freed people in Christ.

Love is Holiness (1 Thessalonians 5:12-26)

Holiness is an important theological concept for Nazarenes. Sometimes we miss a central truth- we cannot make ourselves holy. Today, we are challenged to allow God to make us holy.

The Sent Life (Romans 10:13-15)

We wrap up our Kingdom Habits series. The final habit is to begin identifying yourself as a missionary—a sent one—by journaling the ways you’re alerting others to God’s reign. Weekly Challenge: I will journal throughout the week all the ways I alerted others to the universal reign of God through Christ.

Learning Christ (1 John 2:1-14)

“Learning Christ” helps us understand Jesus better and provides the tools for appropriating His example into our lives. Weekly Challenge: I will spend at least one period of the week learning Christ.

Welcome to the Table (Romans 14:1-14)

The table is the great equalizer in relationships. When we eat together, we discover the inherent humanity of all people. Weekly Challenge: I will eat with three people this week, at least one of whom is not a member of our church.

Being a Blessing (Philippians 2:1-10)

The recipient of a gift thrives on the love, thoughtfulness and effort behind the gift. A gift can show the recipient that they are known, cared for and valued. This week we are challenged to bless three people this week, at least one of whom is not a member of our church.

The God of the Second Chance (Acts 9:1-20)

This is a story of how God breaks into our lives and changes our hearts.

What It Means to Know Christ (Philippians 3:8-14)

Paul has a righteousness which comes from God rather than a himself. Becoming like Christ through His resurrection and sufferings is central to being righteous. Do you have the faith for the cross to reshape your life?

The Word of Reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:17-21)

The challenge is profoundly simple-"Be reconciled to God." It is through this, that we can become His ambassadors.
